On Tuesday evening, Richard Maher died in Johnstown of an affection of the lungs. Over thirty years ago his mother brought him over the old Portage railroad and when arrived at Johnstown some kind farmer saw the boy and pitying his condition took him to raise. He stayed there until about twelve years ago when he suddenly disappeared. The next heard of him was that he was scouting it among the Indians. While there he acted as one of the escort to Duke Alexis a few years ago. But his exposure on the plains brought on a disease which proved fatal, and the man came back to Johnstown to die.
