Friday, 23 Aug 1907 Volume 41, Number 34 Corporal McClain, of Spangler, Kills Himself in Vermont Friends and relatives in this vicinity yesterday received information of the death of James A. McLain (sic) Jr., a son of James McLain Sr., the cashier of the Spangler National Bank, who committed suicide at Rutland, Vt., by drinking the contents of a bottle of carbolic acid. The man, who was a corporal in the United States army and who had been sent to Rutland as a recruit officer, left a note in which he said he was tired and discouraged and had determined to take his own life. He was 25 years of age and unmarried. The deceased's father, James A. McLain Sr., is one of the best known and most highly respected residents of Spangler. The news of the young man's untimely death was a severe shock to the members of his family. It is probable that the remains will be brought to Bellefonte for interment.
