Friday, 19 Jul 1907 Volume 41, Number 29 Struck by an Engine and Fatally Injured Jack McConnell of Summit was struck by an engine near the bridge at Cresson late Saturday night and so badly hurt that he died within a short time. McConnell was walking along the track when the accident occurred. The engine which struck him was a snapper. The body was thrown a considerable distance. The unfortunate man was 22 years of age and single. He is survived by his father, Dr. McConnell of Summit and two brothers, both younger than himself. The funeral took place Tuesday morning from the Catholic church at Summit. It has developed that the young man lost his life in the effort to save that of a friend. McConnell and a man named Foreman were crossing the tracks. As they were crossing, a freight train came along. McConnell saw it and pushed his friend back out of the way when he himself was struck.
