Friday, 19 Apr 1912 Volume 45, Number 16 Edward Owens Dies Edward Owens, one of the oldest and best known residents of Cambria county, and the father of ex-county commissioner, John Owens of this place, died here at 8:45 o'clock Wednesday evening at the advanced age of 84 years. He had been in poor health for a year and death was due to a complication of diseases incident to his advanced age. Mr. Owens was a native of Wales and was a son of a British soldier who saw 21 years in the service of his country and who fought under Wellington in the battle of Waterloo. Mr. Owens was married in his native land and in company with his family came to this country in 1848, ex-county commissioner, John Owens, being born on the ship enroute to this country. Mrs. Owens died in Ebensburg four years ago. The deceased was a sergeant in Company C, Two Hundred and Ninth Regiment of the Pennsylvania volunteers and was a member of the Ebensburg G. A. R. post, the Odd Fellows and of the Ebensburg Baptist church. The surviving children are ex-county commissioner John Owens, Joseph Owens and Miss Margaret Owens at Ebensburg; William who is located in Nevada and Kate, wife of J. C. F. Jones of Braddock. The funeral services will be held tomorrow at 1:30 P. M., at the late residence of the deceased and will be in charge of the G. A. R. and I. O. O. F., Rev. Whitely of the Baptist church officiating. Interment will be in Lloyd cemetery.
