The Alleghanian. (Ebensburg, Pa.) 1859-1865: August 02, 1860
We are pained to learn that Emanuel J. Pershing, Esq., formerly of this county, but
latterly of Rock Island. Illinois, departed this life at the Continental Hotel, in
Philadelphia, on Sunday, the 22d ult. Mr. P. was at one time engaged in the
editorial department of the Johnstown Echo and afterward in that of the Illinois
Rock Islander. His remains were taken to the residence of his brother, C. L.
Pershing, Esq., in Johnstown, and interred in the Sandy Vale Cemetery on Wednesday.
He was universally loved and respected whilst living, and many will regret his
untimely demise.
