Friday, 19 Jan 1906 Volume 40, Number 2 Moore Piper The remains of Moore Piper who died Saturday evening at the Memorial Hospital, Johnstown, of typhoid fever, were brought to Ebensburg on the 10:33 train Tuesday morning, following which interment was made in Lloyd cemetery, the Rev. Samuel Craig, pastor of the Ebensburg Presbyterian church, being in charge of the obsequies. The body was accompanied by Mrs. Anna Ray, a sister of the deceased of Olean, N. Y., and her friend, Miss Gussie Linton of Johnstown. H. H. Meyers, Esq., Cyrus W. Jones, Chas. E. Evans, John E. and Walter R. Thompson, pallbearers, were at the depot together with a number of other Ebensburg friends of the Piper family and after the arrival of the train, the cortege proceeded to the cemetery. The Piper family is well known here, they having at one time resided in Ebensburg. In the early '40s, Johnson Moore, grandfather of the deceased was one of the largest landholders in Northern Cambria county, having at that time secured large holdings along the Blacklick, as well as owning much real estate in the county capital. Col. William Piper, father of the deceased, built Fenwycke Hall, at present owned by Capt. Tom Davis of this place, and was a horseman of much renown in his time. Mrs. William Piper, together with her son, Ross, at present reside at Olean, N. Y. The Piper family are related to Merchant James M. Thompson of this place. He was aged 45 years old and is well known among a large circle of friends in this vicinity, who will regret to learn of his early death. The Piper family for many years resided in the Piper homestead property in Gaysport, where the two sons were engaged in the livery business. The deceased is survived by his aged mother, one sister, Mrs. Annie RAY, and one brother Ross Piper, all of Olean, N.Y.
