Robert Pitcairn Dead 

Robert Pitcairn, for 52 years connected with PRR and for 
many years a general superintendent of that corporation, 
died at his home in Pittsburg Sunday at the age of 73.  Mr. 
Pitcairn retired three years ago on account of ill health.  
Mr. Pitcairn was born in Scotland.  After coming to this 
country with his parents, he learned telegraphy and later 
entered the service of the PRR company.  His connection 
with that corporation gave him an opportunity to accumulate 
vast wealth by engaging in coal traffic which the inter-
state commerce commission declared illegal.  Like other 
railroad men "on the inside" he had no use for the small or 
independent operator.
