Wednesday, November 5, 1890 Killed by Western Express. Johnstown Tribune, November 5. James Quinn, aged 75 years, was struck by western express this morning at 6.40 at the Pennsylvania railroad station crossing and so severely injured that he died about 8 o'clock. Mr. Quinn was on his way to the Cambria works where he was employed. In his haste he did not wait for the gates at the crossing to be opened, but crept under them. The watchman called to him to beware of trains, but he either did not hear or did not heed the warning, and stepped upon the track just as the western rounded the curve above the crossing. The engine struck him on the right side, and he was knocked some distance. Employes of the railroad company carried him into the baggage room and Dr. W. B. Lowman was summoned. After the doctor's ministrations the old man was carried to his home in the Tenth ward, near the site of the old Woodvale bridge. Mr. Quinn was a well known citizen. He leaves a wife and several married children.
