Thus has passed away another of our old and respected citizens, whose long residence in the county, and extensive business made him familiarly known to the people of the whole county. His father was born in Dublin and emigrated to this country, when he settled near Newry, then Bedford, now Blair county, where the deceased was born on the 27th of February 1791... For the last two years his health had been gradually declining, so that his death came not unexpected, but found him fully prepared to meet it. He was buried in the burial ground of the Catholic church in this place, and the long train of friends who followed him "to that bourne from whence no traveller returnes" attests the esteem in which he was held by that community, in which he had so long resided.
