(Ebensburg, Pa.) 1867-1938: June 16, 1870 A young man named John Ryan, who resides in Prospect borough, met with a fatal accident at Altoona, on Friday night last. He started from here on that morning for the purpose of seeking work at Altoona, his occupation being that of machinist. Failing to secure a job, he concluded to return home and just us the Fast Line left the depot at Altoona, he attempted to jump on the train, but missing his footing he fell beneath the car and the wheels passed over his leg at the hip. He was brought here on the same day, but owing to the severe nature of his injuries he died at 11 o'clock the following morning. His remains were interred in the Catholic burying ground on Sunday, followed by a large concourse of sorrowing friends. Deceased leaves a wife and several children.
