Friday, 2 Feb 1906 Volume 40, Number 4 John Roberts John Roberts, Sheriff of Cambria County fifty years ago and for more than twenty years, Justice of the Peace of Franklin Borough, died at the home of his son, Oliver Roberts on Sprince Street, Franklin, aged eighty-eight years. The cause of his death was general debility. The deceased was born in East Taylor township and spent his entire life in this vicinity. In October 1865, Mr. Roberts was the Fusion candidate for Sheriff of Cambria county against Joseph Campbell, the candidate on the American State ticket, also known as the "Know Nothing Party," and defeated his opponent by 708 votes. At that time there were twenty one voting precincts in Cambria county. Mr. Roberts is survived by three sons and four daughters. Twenty grandchildren and six great grandchildren also survive. The funeral took place last Friday and the remains were laid to rest in Singer's cemetery in Conemaugh township.
