Friday, 18 Jan 1907 Volume 41, Number 3 Death of an Aged Citizen Adam Rudolph, of Loretto, Passes Away at His Home Saturday Night Aged about 83 Years Adam Rudolph, one of the best known citizens in the north of the county died at his home in Loretto Saturday night from disease incident to old age. Adam Rudolph was born in Gleboldehausen, Hanover, August 15, 1824. In his youth he was apprenticed to a miller and learned that trade at which he continued to work for some years. In 1847 he married Louisa Heineman and in the following year they emigrated to the United States, and lived for some years in Pittsburg. In 1851 he removed with his family to Loretto, this county, and had continued to live there ever since. Until advanced age and feebleness compelled him to retire, he followed the business of farming on a farm adjoining Loretto, now owned by Charles M. Schwab. Mr. Rudolph was very proud to recall during his life that almost his first wages in this section of the county were earned as a bricklayers' helper in building old St. Michael's brick church. Mr. Rudolph was an earnest advocate and champion of the cause of total abstinence and did everything in his power to further that work. During the past few years he had been living a retired life. Many years ago he butchered and ran a "meat wagon" to Ebensburg, Cresson and surrounding towns, and in that way became acquainted with a large number of people. Besides his wife, the deceased is survived by the following children: Christopher of Loretto; Mrs. Lizzie, wife of Ambrose Sanker of Loretto; Mrs. C. C. Platt of Pittsburg, Pa.; Mrs. Annie Petticord of Altoona; William of Munster Township and Michael of Cresson. The funeral took place from St. Michael's Catholic Church at Loretto on Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock when a high mass of requiem was celebrated by the pastor, Father Ferdinand Kittell, after which interment was made in the cemetery near the church.
