On Wednesday afternoon Lena Schaefer, of Johnstown, committed suicide by swallowing the contents of a box of Rough on Rats. At 11 the same night she died. The coroner's jury after examining a number of witnesses returned a verdict that deceased came to her death "by taking a certain poison known as "Rough on Rats." A letter written by her to her friends was found in a glass case in her room. In the note she bid good-bye to all and said she had had bad luck in her time. She desired to be no expense to any one and further that she did not want her parents to see her after her death. The deceased was not over 17 years old, but had led a fast life and was well known in police circles. Morning Tribune, Altoona, Pa., January 21, 1886
