Friday, 1 Mar 1907 Volume 41, Number 9 Mrs. Schroth Passes Away Wife of Lawrence Schroth, Proprietor of the Lawrence Hotel, Carrolltown, Dies Early Wednesday Morning, Her Demise was Sudden Mrs. Margaret Schroth, widow of the late Lawrence Schroth, died at the St. Lawrence Hotel near Carrolltown at 5:15 o'clock Wednesday morning, aged seventy-six years. Her demise was sudden as she had been talking to members of the family at 5 o'clock. She had been up for a drink of water and a few minutes later called her daughters. She swooned and in a few minutes had expired. Mrs. Schroth's maiden name was Schrimph and she was born in Elder Township. She had been a resident of Carrolltown for fifty years, her husband having conducted a hotel there up to the time of his death. Mrs. Shroat (sic) was widely known not only in Cambria County but through other districts as well on account of her famous culinary abilities. Years ago when the old stage coaches traversed the well known pike that now winds its serpentine way through the hills of Cambria county, Mrs. Schroat (sic) whose husband conducted the well known hostelry alluded to, was known and praised by travelers whose business brought them through this section for her cooking abilities. She was considered the most able housewife in this section of the state and travelers always looked forward to a meal fit for kings when Mr. Schroth's hostelry hove in sight. The following children survive: John of Roanoke, Va.; Frank of Newark, N. J.; Edward of Pittsburg; William of Altoona; Rose, wife of Theodore Vogel of Carrolltown; Martin, Minnie, Amelia and Ada, at home. Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 10 o'clock at St. Benedict's Catholic Church and interment will follow in the church cemetery.
