Sloan died at his home near Lilly last Friday evening at 10:35 o'clock, after an illness of nearly four months from asthma and heart trouble. Mr. Sloan was born in County Down, Ireland, August 25, 1839. He came to this country in 1866 and on October 8, 1872, in St. Titus Catholic church, Titusville, Pa., was united in marriage to Miss Mary Hargoden by Rev. Father Sherdon. In 1881 Mr. Sloan with his wife and family came to Cresson and since that time has been a good and respected citizen of Washington township. The deceased is survived by his wife and the following children: Mrs. F. J. Vigle of Lilly, Pa.; Mrs. Chas. Paschke, Mrs. Joseph Knecht of West Salisbury; James of Lilly; Rose, Bessie, John and Daniel, at home and three children dead. Funeral services were held at the Lilly Catholic church on Monday morning at 9 o'clock and after a Requiem High Mass by Rev. Father Ryan, interment was made in Lilly cemetery. John Sloan was well known in Ebensburg, having worked for many years in this town and his many friends will regret to learn of his death.
