Friday, 26 Oct 1906 Volume 40, Number 43 Death of Robert Smith Millie, the-ten-year old daughter of the late Robert Smith of Carrolltown Road, who was struck and instantly killed last Saturday evening by a freight engine on the Pennsylvania railroad near the Carrolltown station, is slowly recovering from her injuries received at the same time and it is now thought all danger is past. Though a careful examination has shown no broken bones, the injuries appearing to consist of bruises and a severe shock, yet it is possible internal injuries may have been received, the effects of which have not yet developed. There were no witnesses to the accident, which occurred about a quarter of a mile north of the Carrolltown station. A passenger train due at Carrolltown at 6:30 had just passed that station. Mr. Smith, who was returning from Bakerton with his daughter, according to information obtainable, was at the time, walking on the track and in getting out of the way of the approaching train, stepped directly in the path of a freight engine on the other track. Mr. Smith was killed instantly, the body being badly mutilated, a severe scalp wound was the most prominent injury to the girl. Mr. Smith who was about fifty-two years of age was a checkweighman for the Logan Coal Company, being on this way home from work at the time of the accident. He is survived by six children, now orphaned, their mother having died about eighteen months ago. The funeral of Mr. Smith took place Monday afternoon at 3 o'clock Tuesday, interment being made at Bakerton.
