Friday, 28 Jun 1907 Volume 41, Number 26 Killed by Lightning During a severe thunderstorm which swept over the north of the County Saturday afternoon, Peter Smithbower, a well known resident of Patton, was struck and instantly killed by lightning. He was 24 years of age and unmarried. Smithbower was sitting at an open window reading. The storm came up, but he paid no attention to it. A very bright flash of lightning was followed by a terrific roar of thunder. People in the house ran to the room in which Smithbower had been reading and found him lying dead on the floor. His body was badly burned.
