Friday, January 9, 1903 While pouring gasoline out of a quart can with which to clean gloves Saturday, Miss Amanda Strayer of Waterloo, Iowa, was burned to death by the gasoline igniting from the heat of the kitchen stove. While attempting to extinguish the flames, Mrs. Strayer, the girl's mother and a sister were also severely burned. This is the family of John E. Strayer, a former well-known Johnstown newspaper man.
