Wednesday, March 13, 1872 THOMPSON - SUDDEN DEATH OF AN ESTIMABLE LADY - Our community was startled, not to say shocked, on Wednesday evening last, by the announcement of the fearfully sudden and unlooked for death of the amiable and much esteemed wife of our worthy postmaster, Maj. John Thompson, which sad event took place at the house of Mr. F. H. Barker, whither she was conveyed from the Presbyterian church, where she had been in attendance, in company with her husband, at the concert given on the evening named. Her death was caused by disease of the heart, to which she was subject, and the first attack came on while present in the church. Her age was about 65 years and she was the mother of five sons and four daughters, all of whom were worthy of her earnest love and kind solicitude. By blood and marriage she was connected with some of the best families in the State, and no death could be more widely and sincerely mourned than that of this much respected lady. Her funeral took place at two o'clock yesterday afternoon and was attended by a large concourse of sympathizing friends. Interred at Lloyd's cemetery. - Ebensburg Freeman, March 8. 1870 Ebensburg, Cambria County census - John Thompson, 64 Ellen J. Thompson, 63
