Friday, 27 Apr 1906 Volume 40, Number 16 Killed on Railroad near Spangler Joseph Wheeler, a Prominent Hotel Man, Meets Tragic Death Joseph Wheeler, one of the best known hotel men in the north of Cambria county, met death in a tragic manner Wednesday while walking along the tracks of the Pennsylvania railroad leading from Spangler to Barnesboro. Mr. Wheeler had gone to Spangler on business and while returning he stopped for a few minutes to talk to some workmen who were employed on the tracks. He had started on his way again toward Barnesboro when the 3:10 passenger train, which runs from Kaylor to Barnesboro, suddenly rounded a curve, approaching him from the rear. Realizing that the man was in imminent danger of this life, the workmen yelled lustily at Mr. Wheeler to beware of the approaching locomotive but before he could step from the tracks the iron monster had overtaken him. The workmen who had endeavored to save Mr. Wheeler's life by calling to him, hurried to the place. The unfortunate man was picked up and placed aboard the train and taken to his home in Barnesboro. Joseph Wheeler was born in Indiana county, Pa., and came to Cambria county several years ago. He purchased the City Hotel at Barnesboro which he for some time conducted. He is survived by his wife and one child, Fred, aged six years and one brother, Roy H. Wheeler, who, until recently, was engaged in the hotel business at Hastings. The body of the dead man will be taken to his native home in Dixonville, Indiana county, on the 7 o'clock train tomorrow morning, where the funeral services will be conducted from the Dixonville Methodist church.
