Friday, 4 Jun 1909 Volume 43, Number 23 Former Carrolltowner Dead Jacob White, a native of Germany, died of Bright's disease on Saturday afternoon at his home in Altoona, where he had lived for thirty-eight years. When one year old, Jacob White came to this country with his parents and when five years old he moved to Carrolltown. There he learned the carpenter trade and he later became a raftsman on the old Canal. He had the distinction of being the first man to take a raft of logs from Cherrytree beyond the Alleghenies, down the Old Canal to New York City.
