Brown buwbrown@comcast.net July 22, 2008, 9:43 am Complaint made before J.M. Lehman, Alderman of Cambria County by Mrs. Elizabeth Richards, the mother of Thomas G. Richards. Mrs. Elizabeth Richards of Johnstown deposed that Thomas is aged 15, incorrigible, will not attend school, and will not attend to his work. He leaves home frequently and stays out all night. He has been absent from home at several times as long as eight or ten days and nights at a time, sleeping in back of houses and other places. On Feb. 15, 1898 he took seventeen dollars of her money, that he made away with six dollars of the aforesaid money. Henry J. Eichensine of Johnstown deposed the same. "I know that he has a good home and had plenty to eat but his parents could not control him by kindness or otherwise." Additional Comments: Notes made upon commitment to reform school: Tomas G. Richards, #5452. Parents died in England 9 years ago. Was adopted by Mrs. Elizabeth Richards, who came with him to this country about 8 years since and now lives at 389 Moore St., Johnstown, Pa. Sent here for running away from home, stealing money, etc. Height 5' 2 1/2", weight 109 pounds. Dark brown hair, brown eyes, dark complexion, 4 vaccin. marks on left arm. Large scar on right shin. Age: 16 on Apr. 5, 1898; received Feb. 21, 1898. Born: England; parentage, English. Attends Baptist Church. No brothers or sisters. Can read & write. Swears, steals. Does not lie, use tobacco.
