Friday, 23 Jun 1911 Volume 45, Number 25 Dr. Bennett Marries The Greenview Review of Wednesday morning contained the following account of the wedding Tuesday night of Dr. Harry J. Bennett of this place to Miss Gertrude Shaffer of Greensburg: At the home of the bride's mother, Mrs. Henry S. Shaffer, of North Maple Avenue, the marriage of Miss Gertrude Hixson Shaffer to Dr. Harry J. Bennett, of Ebensburg, was consummated last evening at 7:30. Rev. William Ward West, former pastor of the First Baptist Church of this city, but now located at Allentown, tied the nuptial knot in the presence of only the relatives and a few of the most intimate friends of the bride and groom. Miss Mazie V. Love of Alverton played the wedding march, accompanied by J. M. Scott on the violin. During the ceremony a beautiful violin solo was rendered by Mr. Scott. Decorations for the pretty home wedding were carried out in green and white. Palms, sweet peas and bride's roses combined with smilax formed most of the decorations. Miss Shaffer was attended by her sister, Miss Katheryn Shaffer, as maid of honor and Georgie Thomas, niece of the bride, acted as flower girl. Philip N. Shoemaker of Ebensburg was Dr. Bennett's best man. The bride wore a bewitchingly pretty gown of white satin, white pearl trimmings and baby Irish lace. She carried a shower boquet (sic) of lilies of the valley and bride's roses. The bridesmaid was gowned in pale green satin with pearl and crystal trimmings and carried a shower boquet of bride's roses and sweet peas. Little Miss Thomas was gowned in lingerie frock of white with pale green ribbons and carried an empire basket filled with Madame Chatney roses. After the ceremony an elaborate wedding supper was served and Dr. and Mrs. Bennett departed for a trip to unknown points, but will be at home after August 1 on Julian Street, Ebensburg, where Dr. Bennett has a large practice. Among the out-of-town guests were Mrs. E. J. Bennett, Harriet Bennett, and Philip N. Shoemaker of this place and Mrs. Henrietta Curfman of Altoona.
