Barr, 85, loving husband, devoted father and grandfather, died January 1, 2005 at The Fairways at Brookline, State College. He was a resident of 301 Rolling Ridge Road, State College and formerly of 270 South Science Park Court. He was born June 10, 1919 in Gatesburg, the son of John R. and Ancie B. (Rider) Barr. On October 4, 1939 in Cumberland, Maryland, he married Valmeda G. Meek, who survives. Also surviving is one daughter, Darla and Robert Franks of State College; two sons, Gerald R. and wife Rebecca Barr of Bellefonte and George R. Jr. and wife Diane Barr of Lancaster; six grandchildren, Tina, Jessie, James, Chris, Tammy and Trey; 10 great-grandchildren; one sister, Emma Brown of Florida and one brother, John Rider Barr of Pine Grove. He was preceded in death by one grandson, Charles and one great- grandson, Ryan, four sisters and three brothers. Mr. Barr was a member of the Gatesburg Lutheran Church. He served in the 320th Infantry 32nd Division Army in the European Theater during WWII. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He had worked at P.S.U. for 40 years, retiring in 1981 from the Property Inventory office. A funeral will be held Wednesday, January 5, 2005 at 11 a.m. at the Gatesburg Lutheran Church with Vicar Mary Louise Brown officiating. Place of burial is the Gatesburg Cemetery in Ferguson Township. Friends will be received at the Bruce E. Cox Funeral Home, Warriors Mark, on Tuesday from 7 - 9 p.m. There will be no public viewing.
