Mathews, 93, of Center, Osceola Mills R.D. 1, was dead on arrival at the Philipsburg State General Hospital Monday, Aug. 25, at 2:30 p.m. Born in Tioga county, Sept. 17, 1886, he was the son of John and Margaret (Jones) Mathews. He is survived by his wife, the former Kathryn Philips, and these children: Mrs. John (Florence) Nickey, York; Mrs.Clarence (Isabel) Rexroth, Baltimore, Md., and Edward, Osceola Mills R.D. He is also survived by six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was the last of his generation. Mr. Mathews wasa retired coalminer and was a member of the United Mine Workers of America, Local 1723. Services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Heath Funeral Home, Osceola Mills, with the Rev. Wayne Focht officiating. Interment will be in the Centre Cemetery. Friends will be received at the funeral home after 3 p.m. Wednesday. __________________________________________________________________ MATHEWS, Kathryn - February 1988 Mrs. Kathryn Mathews, 98, of Osceola Mills R.D., died Sunday, Feb. 28, at 2 p.m. at her home. Born June 27, 1889, in Decatur Township, she was a daughter of Hugh and Annie (Davidson) Phillips. Mrs. Mathews had retired as an employee of the Philipsburg State General Hospital and was a member of the Centre Untied Methodist Church, Osceola Mills R.D. The last of her generation, she was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Peter Mathews, in 1980, and one sister. She is survived by three children, Mrs. Florence Nickey of York, Mrs. Clarence (Isabel) Rexroth of Columbia, Md., and Edward P. Mathews of Osceola Mills R.D.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Heath Funeral Home, Osceola Mills, with the Rev. Kenneth Loss officiating. Iterment will be in the Centre Cemetery. Friends will be received at the funeral home Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. The family suggests donations be made to the Centre Untied Methodist Church. ______________________________________________________________________
