Mignogna, 26, a member of the Pleasant Gap, Centre County, state police force, and formerly stationed at the state police sub-station in Huntingdon, died at 6 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 1, 1944, at the home of his wife's mother, Mrs. Peter Kushwara of Half Moon Terrace, Bellefonte. Full military funeral services in charge of State Police from the Hollidaysburg barracks were held at St. John's Catholic Church, Bellefonte, at 10 a.m. this Tuesday forenoon with Rt. Rev. William E. Downes officiating. Interment in the church cemetery. Pvt. Mignogna, a native of Portage, had not been well since undergoing an appendix operation three weeks after his marriage to the former Eva Kushwara of Bellefonte on November 14, 1942. For the past several weeks his condition was serious. The deceased was a graduate of the Portage High School in the class of 1935 where he was a member of the football team and was president of his class in his senior year. He was employed by the Bethlehem Steel Company at Johnstown until April 1, 1938, when he became a member of the Pennsylvania State Police. He received his training at Meyerstown State Police School and was graduated at Harrisburg. His first assignment was at the Pleasant Gap sub-station where he remained 19 months and was then transferred to Huntingdon and then to Philipsburg. Within several months he was returned to Pleasant Gap where he was stationed until forced to give up his work because of illness. Since his marriage he had lived at the Kushwara home. He was well known in Huntingdon County. In addition to his wife, his parents, Joseph and Rose Amtorose* Mignogna of Portage, where he was born May 24, 1917, survive. His grandmother, Mrs. Florence McNogner,* also of Portage, and these brothers and sisters also survive: Tony, in the U.S. Army, now overseas, Albert, Eugene and Gloria, and Mrs. John Glista, all of Portage. He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, Bellefonte. The Daily News, Huntingdon, Pa., January 4, 1944 * Mother's maiden name should be Rose Amorosa and I am almost positive the grandmother's name should be Florence Mignogna - as I can't find that she ever remarried a McNogner - but it's possible.
