Max Pearce, Philipsburg, Justice of the Peace, died of a heart attack in the Philipsburg State Hospital Monday morning Jan. 16, at 5:30 o'clock. He had been ill for approximately one year. He was born Dec. 17, 1894, at Philipsburg, a son of Alexander and Amanda Kyler Pearce. He was a life-time resident of Philipsburg. Surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Grace Hoffer, Mrs. Claud Adams, Philipsburg; and Mrs. John C. Cole, Columbus, Pa. Mr. Pearce had been in failing health for the past year and had been hospitalized at the Philipsburg State Hospital and at a hospital in Philadelphia several times, undergoing several operations. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church; served as choir master for 18 years; and recently resigned as secretary of the Elks in which capacity he had served for 10 years. Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 o'clock in the Presbyterian Church. The Rev. C. Edwin Houck will officiate. Friends will be received at the Beever funeral home, Philipsburg, from 7 to 9 Wednesday evening and from noon until time of the services, Thursday. Tyrone Daily Herald, Tyrone, Pa., January 18, 1950
