Ray at that Place Monday Night. M. M. Ray, a brakeman in the employ of the Pennsylvania railroad company and a resident of this city, was killed at Huntingdon Monday evening. He was a member of Conductor Wise's crew and the run being between Altoona and Mifflin. The accident happened about twenty-five minutes after 7 o'clock, the train being hauled by extra engine 343, Engineer J. M. Stonebraker. The east-bound trip was being made when the accident occurred while some cars were being put onto the canal siding at Huntingdon. Just how the accident happened is not positively known, but it is supposed that he fell from his train. The body was not mutilated. Mr. Ray was about 25 years of age and single and had been in the employ of the company since June 18, 1887. He was the son of Robert and Elizabeth Ray, of Bellefonte. He boarded at the residence of his uncle, Mr. Robert Cox, at the corner of Ninth street and Fairview avenue, this city. He is highly spoken of by his employers and had many friends here, being a man of many excellent qualities. The body was properly cared for at Huntingdon and brought to Altoona on Pacific express Tuesday morning. It was taken to the residence of Mr. Cox and thence conveyed to Bellefonte for interment. Altoona Tribune, February 7, 1889 Note: Sixteen-year-old Mitchell Ray is listed with parents Robert and Elizabeth Ray in the 1880 Bellefonte, Centre County census.
