All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/centre/ _________________________________________ Martha Hazel Ryder Martha Hazel Ryder, 105, of State College, died Monday, Dec. 3, 2007, at Mount Nittany Medical Center. Born Jan. 4, 1902 in Tyrone, she was a daughter of the late Lou and Nancy Woomer. On March 30, 1922, she married James Clyde Ryder, who died May 20, 1965. She was a member of Halfmoon Christian Fellowship Church. She was very active with her church's suppers and socials. Hazel taught craft classes to the blind. After Clyde's death, she traveled a lot, including trips to Hawaii and the Western United States. She moved to State College in 1980, and spent part of the winter in Florida during her 90s. For exercise, she would walk up and down seven flights of stairs. She participated in Peppi Classes three times a week at Mount Nittany Residences. She participated in "Walk Across America" up to this year, and received a plaque in honor of her participation. She received five Presidential Certificates for being 100 or older. She moved to Greenhills Village in August, 2007. She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Bernard (Arliene) Hoy of State College, four grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband she was predeceased by three brothers, James, Earl and Fred Woomer, and a sister, Ruth Cowher. Visitation will be Wednesday, Dec. 5, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton St., State College. Funeral services will follow at 11:30 a.m. with the Rev. Diane Prosser officiating. Burial will be in Grays Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 501 Howard Ave., Building D, Suite 101, Altoona, PA 16601.
