He had been ill for more than a year, but early in the spring recovered sufficiently that he was able to go from his daughter's, Mrs. John (Hannah) Morrissey, to his son William's home at VanScoyoc. Mr. Stonebraker was a member of the United Brethren Church for some years, but on account of not having regular services in that church, he withdrew his certificate and deposited it with the Methodist Episcopal Church at Bald Eagle, where he has attended very regularly ever since. He had served in various offices of the church, as trustee, steward, etc. For more than fifty years his prayers have been going up on behalf of his soul and the salvation of the world. We are but voicing the sentiments of a community when we say he was a faithful and consistent Christian, using much of his time and energy for the promotion of the cause of Christ. His warning remarks to all worldly people, will be ringing in their ears for years to come. He leaves behind him that divine influence that every Christian ought to leave, with no doubt of his future. On Sunday a number of his classmates called to see him, and although enwrapped with disease he was quickly spirited and said, "Why we can have a meeting," and they did have a very happy meeting, the last with Brother Stonebraker here below. He enjoyed it with an effort to help sing and pray and occasionally cry "Hallelujah." Thus ends a life of usefulness in this world, not missed perhaps in worldly interests, but his loss will be keenly felt in the church and community. The subject of this sketch was born in the vicinity of Bald Eagle Sept. 15, 1821, and died July 17, 1893, and was aged 71 years, 10 months and 2 days. He leaves to mourn his loss, one son and six daughters, Elizabeth, Anna, Tamar, William, Hannah, Ellen, and Almeda, his wife, two sons having preceded him to the grave. Funeral services were conducted by Reverend G. P. Sarvis at Bald Eagle Church this forenoon after which interment was followed in cemetery. L. A. W.
