H. Shaffer, of 1116 Twelfth avenue, died at 9:15 o'clock yesterday morning after an illness of three weeks, due to cerebral hemorrhage, at the home of his daughter. He resided at Lemont, Centre county, and came to this city to visit several weeks ago. He was stricken while here. Mr. Thompson was born October 11, 1843, in Centre county and was twice wedded. His second wife, nee Miss Margaret Johnson, survives and the following children: Mrs. Mary I. Shaffer, this city; Mrs. George Sellers, Harrisburg; Mrs. L. H. Crossman, Oaks, Pa.; Lieutenant George B. Thompson, of the First Pennsylvania cavalry machine gun company, stationed at present on the Mexican border, and Charles M., Elkhurst, W.Va. One brother, James I., of State College, also survives. The deceased was also a veteran of the Civil war and was a member of the Grand Army. He was also a member of the Presbyterian church. The body will be taken to Centre county today. Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at Lemont, followed by interment at that place. Altoona Tribune, Saturday Morning, November 18, 1916
