Whitby, 82, of State College, died Sunday, April 27, 2003 at The Fairways at Brookline Village. Born November 17, 1920 in Glasgow, Scotland, she was a daughter of the late James and Jane Freeman Ellis. On January 24, 1950 in Saratoga Springs, NY, she married William F. Whitby Jr. who preceded her in death on September 4, 2001. She served in British Royal Air Corps during World War II as a radar operator. She was an active volunteer in the community. She is survived by three sons, Ellis C. Whitby and wife Mary of Alexandria, Va., Jeffrey C. Whitby of Little Rock, Ark., and David Whitby and wife Cindy of Tyrone; a daughter-in-law, Phoebe "Gigi" Whitby of Scottsdale, Az; two sisters, Grace Dixon of Toronto, Canada and Elizabeth deLalla of Saratoga Springs, NY; six grandchildren, Andrew and Emily Whitby of Alexandria, Va., Jonathan Whitby of Scottsdale, Az., Abigail Whitby of Little Rock, Ark,, and Michael and Katherine Whitby of Tyrone. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, William F. Whitby III; a sister, Anne McCraig Love; and two brothers Robert and Hector Ellis. As per her request, there will be no visitation or services and her body was donated to the Hershey Medical School. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, South Central Pennsylvania Chapter, Governor's Plaza South, Building 2, 2001 North Front Street, Suite 321, Harrisburg, Pa. 17102.
