I am publishing the information contained in the Bible in case a distant relative is researching this line and the information can fill in some blanks. The PENNELL/MCFADDEN FAMILY BIBLE was owned by Mrs. Frances Miller of West Grove, Chester Co., PA. The only other place names mentioned in the Bible are Jennersville, Elkview, Rupelville, & Oxford, all in PA. Hidden inside the Bible was many memorabilia, including hair, dried flowers, lace, calling cards, poems, newspaper clippings, a drug prescription from 1882, letters, and funeral notices. It can also be gathered that the MCFADDEN's were probably Quakers or were friends with Quakers because many of the cards refer to the days of the week as "Third-day", "Sixth-day", etc., which Quakers do because of religious beliefs. Finally, also held in the Bible are many unidentified photographs. From two handwritten letters dated 1881 & 1882, we know that Mercer MCFADDEN's father was Israel MCFADDEN. The letters were from Israel, one expressing condolences on the loss of a child. There is also a funeral notice that tells us Irael MCFADDEN was buried on Dec 6, 1889 at Georgetown M. E. Cemetery. Other funeral notices tell us that a Miss Clara H. PENNEL died around Dec 20, 1899, and that Mrs. Elizabeth PENNELL died of heart disease. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- A MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE An original marriage certificate was found in the Bible.
