By : Robert E. Seeley , 7th Great-grandson Joseph Garrett was born February 25, 1700/1701 in Darby, Pa. to Samuel Garrett and Jane Pennell. Joseph's Uncle Thomas Garrett, brother of Samuel, was the first constable in Willistown Township in 1704. Joseph married Mary Sharples in 1721/1722 in Providence Meeting. Mary is the daughter of James Sharples and Mary Lewis. Joseph Garrett's grandfather William Garrat, husband of Ann Kirke, and his friend Samuel Levis purchased 1000 acres of land in Willistown before 1723/1724 his death, but I believe before 1704 when his son Thomas was constable. Joseph and Jane lived on the land adjacent to the Goshen Meeting settling in about 1725. In 1715 Samuel, Joseph's father, purchased 33 acres of land east of North Chester road and in 1725 purchased another 250 acres. This in the land the Garrett family descendants owned for many years in Goshen. They had ten children Jonathan, who married Hannah Brinton, James , Mary, who married Jonathan Eldridge, Abraham who married Mary Taylor, Jane, who married Josiah Haines, Joshua, who died as infant, Caleb, Esther, Sarah, who married Thomas White, and youngest child Joseph, who married Charity Collins. Joseph died September 24, 1770 as written on the estate inventory papers date September 28, 1770. Mary Sharples Garrett died in 1773. I could not find any burial records but I believe they are both buried in Goshen Friends Burial Grounds , as many of their descendants are buried and their land was adjacent. Some people have asked me the relationship of Thomas Garrett, The Station Master On The Underground Railroad, to Joseph Garrett of Goshen. Thomas is the grandnephew of Joseph Garrett.
