Church: Captain Co.D., 107th Pa. vols.; 20 months in southern prisons; mustered out 1865: was admitted to the bar in Phila., 1867, from Law Dept., Univ.of Pa.; appointed private secretary to Gov. Hartranft, 1872; Reporter of Supreme Court, 1876; elected State Senator, 1881; appointed U.S. pension agent at Phila., 1884; Inspector General for U.S.G.A.R., 1873; also State and Department Commander; colonel and aid-de-camp on staff of Gov. Hartranft, 1877; also Judge Advocate General on staff of Gov. Hoyt; elected Auditor General of Penna., 1886, and died while holding that office.
