Wiley and edited by Winfield Scott Garner, Gresham Publishing Company, Phila- delphia, PA, 1893, page 360. "REV. ROBERT WHITE was born in Montgomery county, Pennsylvania, about the year 1785; received his classical and mathematical education at Norristown; studied theology under the direction of Rev. Nathan Grier, of Brandywine Manor, and was licensed to preach by the Presbytery of New Castle, April 4, 1809. The same year he married the eldest daughter of his theological preceptor, Mr. Grier. He became pastor of the Presbyterian church of Fagg's Manor, Chester county, in 1810, which relation he sustained until his death, September 20, 1835. "He was a man of fine talents, an instructive preacher, and a friend of thorough education. He had no desire to gain the applause of man. There was nothing of an affected, sanctimonious manner about him. He could not act the part of a hypocrite, and no one could be in his company for any length of time without being impressed with his humble, Christian spirit. Religion with him was a reality, in the pulpit and out of it. It gave direction to all he did and said. The power of his example no man could gainsay."
