Within the past year, the township and local Boy Scouts have unearthed and re-erected dozens of fieldstone markers, and put up an iron fence and “Somerset” sign. The 1847 map for Upper Oxford Twp. shows an “African M.E. Ch.” in the village of Somerset. The church was “rejuvenated” about 120 years ago: Daily Local News, West Chester, March 18, 1885 “The few remaining members of the A.M.E. Union church are erecting a small frame building in which to worship, near Somerset, Upper Oxford.” E. G. footstone W.
