Written: March 25, 1785

To the Honourable Justices of the Orphan Court held and kept at Chester for 
the County of Chester the 25th day of March Anno Domini 1785.

The Petition of Rebecca Adam (widow) Administratrix of William Adams late of 
West Fallowfield in the County of Chester dec’d.

Humbly Sheweth

That the said William Adams the deced some in or about the year 1776 died 
Intestate ~ leaving a widow the said Rebecca and Issue three Children to 
survive him– That letters of Administration on the sd Decd’s Estate were in 
due form of law granted to your Petitioner.  Who exhibitted into the Registers 
Office for this County an Inventory of sd Decd’s Personal Estate amounting to 
£300 - and upwards – That your Petitioner at a former Orphans Court Obtain’d 
an order for the sale of a Messuage or Tenement & about 50 acres of land and 
sold the same – That there are divers debts due by the said Intestate in his 
life time and yet unpaid amounting to the sum of £33 and upward more than his 
personal Estate & (unreadable) that the said deceased was in his lifetime and 
at the time of his decease seized & possessed of a messuage or Tenement and 
Tract or parcel of land situate in West Fallowfield aforesaid containing about 
100 acres. 

Your Petitioner therefore pray that your Honours will be pleased to grant her 
an order for the sale of the said messuage and tract of land to satisfy those 
debts which the said Intestates personal Estate (together with the amount of 
the sale of the messuage & which has been already sold) will fall short to 
satisfy

Chester for the County of Chester the 16th Day of March 1779.

The Petition of Rebecca Adams of the Township of 

Humbly Sheweth

That your Petitioner Husband died Intestate some time ago seized & possessed 
of goods & chattles land & tenements a letter of Administration was granted to 
your Petitioner which aministration is finaly settled and the estate apear to 
be inabled to the amount of three hundred pounds and as your Petitioner thus 
far left two Plantations or Tracts of Lane one containing about one Hundred 
acres with buildings & the other about fifty acres your Petitioner requests 
the Honourable Court to ? Your order to sell and convey the fifty acres of 
land with the appurtenances for the payment of your Petitioner Dec.d Husband 
debts from Petitioner in duty shall pray
