Carte-de-visete of 1st Lieutenant Benjamin Henry Downing, 49th Pennsylvania 
Volunteer Regiment.  Born in 1841, he served all four years of the war, after 
which he returned to Byers, Pennsylvania, where he built a number of homes that 
still exist in that place.  In 1877 he removed to Kansas, where he was a member 
of Post 25 of the GAR in Wichita.  Serving as City councilman and election 
commissioner, he also was a home builder in Wichita.  He died 14 Nov 1908.

Benjamin was the ggg grandson of Thomas Downing, namesake of Downingtown.
