Born in 1841, he served all four years of the war, after which he returned to Byers, Pennsylvania, where he built a number of homes that still exist in that place. In 1877 he removed to Kansas, where he was a member of Post 25 of the GAR in Wichita. Serving as City councilman and election commissioner, he also was a home builder in Wichita. He died 14 Nov 1908. Benjamin was the ggg grandson of Thomas Downing, namesake of Downingtown.
