All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/pafiles.htm ************************************************ Honrd Sir Having att Sundry times & for years past & from many Diferent persons been in formed that there is something Valuable belonging to me in & about Philadelfia I have made aplication to Several people not to any purpose as yet. in year 1772 I aplyd to My Brother that lives in London & he aplyd to govenor penn the govenor have his word to See in to it to ye utmost of his power & he accordingly wrote to his Secatary in pensilvanieia in return Had the folowing answer Philadelphia March ye 1st 1772 I find that George Andrews was a first Purchaser of 250 acres of land as apears by Lease & release from Mr Wm penn to him Dated ye 5th of September 1681 which are recorded in ye Rolls ofice in book B Vol 2 page 110 but on ye 16 of ye Same Month he Sold one half of this Land to John Hickman of Broohnhan in ye County of Wilts worsted Comber which apears by his Deed of lease & release for 125 acres to ye Said Hickman recorded in Book ye Six Vol ye 3d page ye 5th on Examining ye Surveyer generals ofice I find a Survey was Made of George Andrews's 250 Acres ye 24th 1682 on ye Bank of Naamans Creek in Chester County & on ye 8 of Febuary 1685 a reservay was Made of 390 Acres in ye first forks of ye same Creek Called on ye daught of - Survey Georg Andrews's Land tho in ye return it is mentiond to be made for Henry Renalds by this I Sopose he Made some trans- ference of his right to renalls & yet nothing further apears in any of the ofices relatetive to this Land nor on ye best Search I have been able to Make is there to be found in record Either in phila- delphia or Chester County any deeds to or from Geo Andrews for any other Lands Mr H. Grabham writes me that he thinks the Land in ye fork of Naamans Creek is now in possesion of Jo Price Esqr but knows not under what title he holds it ye Surveyors general tells me that ye last Apertinent to Andrews's purchases fell on ye Corner of Sassafras & Six Streek 49 feet by 313 but as that lott is taken up there is a vacancy sufficient to answer ye Claim I Cannot discover by any of ye records which I have Examined in what County Andrews lived nor whether he was Justis or Sheriff [of ye County] in this province if in My future Enquiry I receive any further information respecting him or ye Estate he held in this County I shall be Carefull to make you accquainted therewith for ye satisfac -tion of his desendans in England a Neaybouring gentelman went from England last Aprill was twelve month on ye same busoness & Says he found on ye records that there was left by my predesessor ye following & was recorded as follows : George Andrews Junior of Rowd in ye County of Wilts :Sergmaker: 250 Acres of land in north America, ye City lott :175 feet between Mulbery Street & Sasafras Street in Six :Street on Dalawar front. & on ye 23 of August last a Stranger Called on me that was Just Arived from pensilvania & had Examind ye records in that Country to find something of ye like kind for him self & he brough me a verbal Acount that Answers with ye above as face Answers to face in a glass now Dear Sir if you find Mr Pennington dos not Care to undertake the affair or if you Both Joyn as you will See best I Shall be very much oblidge to you & will give you ye preferance of purchasing it & be willing to return you all ye Expenses you shall be att to obtain it in any Manner you Shall see best as ye City lot is very Valuable I hope & dought not but you will do ye best with that & the other also as I am willing to Sell it if not to to much disadvantage & if not I intend to Come over Shall be glad to hear of you as Soon as you have Made any progress in it & till then Shall rest with my prayers for your Safe return 7 for future Success & Conclude my Self with due respect your Most Obedient & Humble Servant James Andrews P:s: I have ye Geneology of my family & every thing that is ressesary to prove my self the undouted Heir of the above George Andres Chipenham in Wiltshire September ye 12 1775 NOTE: Brakets indicate words are lined through.
