Pa. Sea Service Inscribed on the Roll of Pennsylvania in the amount of 80 dollars and 0 cents for service to commence on the 5th day of March, 1831. Certificate of Pension issued the 11 day of September 1832, and sen to W. O'Neal, Reg., Washington City Arrears to 4th of September 1832 $120- Semiannual allowance 4 March 1833 $40- Total $160- Revolutionary Claim Act June 7, 1832 Recorded by Wm. S. On this twenty-fourth day of July A.D. one thousand eight hundred and thirty- two personally appeared before me, Joseph Engle, one of the Judges of the Court of Common Plea in and for the County of Delaware and state of Pennsylvania John Jackson, a resident of the township of Upper Providence, Delaware County, State of Pennsylvania aged ninety nine years, who being first duly sworn according to law doth on his oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the act of Congress passed June 7th, 1832 - That he entered the service of the United States under the following named officers, and served as herein stated: I was born at Marcus Hook in Lower Chichester Township in the County of Chester (now County of Delaware) and state of Pennsylvania. I was born in the month of June, and I was just twenty five years old when the British left Philadelphia during the revolutionary war. I have no record of my age & I went into the service of the United States on board the row gallies in the river Delaware. The season before, row gallies attacked the Ros-buck (a British frigate) in the river Delaware. I was in that action. In was enlisted under Captain Wade. I was three years and one month in the service from the time I first substd under Captain Wade till I was taken prisoner by the British. I was taken prisoner in Chester, was taken to an English war vessel in the Delaware, the Commodore ordered me to Philadelphia. I remained there a prisoner two months, and then Capt. Peter Howcer having taken a company of Hessions that were out plundering. I was exchanged for one of them. General Washington then gave me a parole for twenty days to go home and before the twenty days were out I was called on by my old Captain, Capt. Wade, and I went into the service again. This second time I was in the service about three weeks. Captain Wade commanded a sloop in the river Delaware in the service of the United States called Rachel. I had no written discharge from Capt. Wade or any one else. I received at the time of my discharge the prize money to which I was intitled for assisting in ___, from the refugees two shallops which the refugees had taken from Colonel Floyd and Captain Ford. I am known in my present neighbourhood by William Long, Margaret Burns, Jonas Eyre who can testify as to my character and to their belief as to my services in the revolution. I have been blind for nearly twenty years. I can just see a little glimmer of light, but I cannot tell black from white. I have been in the poor house of Delaware County for near twenty years and maintained at the public espense. And am now very infirm in body and unable to attend upon Court. I hereby relinquish every claim whatever to a pension ___ except the present and disclose that his name is not on the pension roll of any agency of any state whatever. I, William Long of the township of Chester, County of Delaware and state of Pennsylvania being duly affirmed according to law deposes and says that I am in my ninetieth year and I have known John Jackson ever since he was a prentice boy with William Siddons.
