On Saturday night, Aug. 3d, some parties entered the spring house of Mr. Henry WHITESIDES, of East Nantmeal, and helped themselves to some of the eatables that were in it. Whoever it was, they acted with some show of decency, as they disturbed nothing except what they ate, with the exception of the lock, which was carried off. Tuesday, August 13, 1867 The American Republican and Chester County Democrat Opened – The new Drug Store of Dr. C. L. KELLING, No. 17 and 19 Gay street, in this Borough, was opened for business on Monday morning last. On Saturday even the Dr. gave a handsome collation, and to which all the hands employed in re- modeling the building were invited. The store is one of the prettiest in the Borough. Tuesday, August 13, 1867 The American Republican and Chester County Democrat Highway Robbery – Constable EVANS of this Borough arrested three young men charged with committing highway robbery on an old man named Eber P. FRAME. The names of the parties were Wilmer STEEN, James CLARK and Edward COCHLIN. STEEN was first arrested, and becoming frightened, peached on the other two. Tuesday, August 13, 1867 The American Republican and Chester County Democrat Moved From Its Foundation – The foundation of the warehouse belonging to Seymour WILLIAMSON, at Caln station, on the Pennsylvania railroad; being greatly decayed, the rain storm of last week caused it to give way, and the building was precipitated about four feet, into the pike. One person was in the house at the time, but was not injured. The building sustained considerable damage by its sudden removal, but the occupants are enabled to continue their business in it. – Union Tuesday, August 13, 1867 The American Republican and Chester County Democrat A Bold Robbery – A correspondent says that HALDEMAN’S mill, in East Coventry, Chester county, Penna., now in possession of Benjamin and Joseph HALDEMAN, was entered on Tuesday, Aug. 6th, and $265.00 taken from the money drawer. The two brothers, B. & J. HALDEMAN, each had a key to the desk, but one of them lost his key a few weeks since, and in order that either of them could unlock the drawer in the others absence, they prepared a place for the key. They do not know whether someone found the lost key, or knew where they kept the other. One of the firm was in and about the mill during the whole day. At noon the money was in the desk, and in the evening the pocket book that contained the money, was left in the drawer with 40 cents, but $265 was missing. The desk was locked and the key in its proper place. Stealing and robbing has become a good business in this part of the county.
