John C. Groff, well and favorably known as a member of the Chester county Bar, 
a native of Chester County, announces his candidacy for the office of Register 
of Wills, subject to Republican rules. Mr. Groff’s many score of friends have 
urged him to take this step because of his admirable fitness and worthiness 
for the work and duties generally.  He was just returned from the war from 
overseas, where he arose from the position of Captain to that of Major.

He has been in the service of the State and country continuously for a number 
of years, he having served as Captain of Co. I in the border campaign in 
Mexico and later in the world war over the seas, and his record is of courage, 
loyalty and devotion to the cause for which the flag of the U.S. waves to-day. 
At the close of the war he was major of the 103d Ammunition Train, 28th 
Division, U.S.A.  and he is proud of having fought under the flat of 
Pennsylvania’s Iron Division.

He needs no introduction to Chester county voters.  He is a son of the late 
Major Groff, who as an educator helped to make Chester county what it is in 
the way of excellent schools.  He is of Chester County stock, upon which there 
isn’t a single stain, and so it happens in recognition of his merits in civil 
and military life his many friends are backing him for the count office he now 
seeks.  He purposes mingling with the voters of Chester county during his 
campaign, when he will explain his candidacy, if any explanation is necessary- 
ADV.

Major Groff wins the election to the office.  He dies in December 1928
The Pennsylvania National Guard Armory Building on High Street & Washington 
Street in West Chester is named after Major John C. Groff.
