Dewees “Duke” SHANAMAN, son of Mr. and Mrs. S. L. Shanaman of Phoenixville, left on Tuesday morning for Quantico, Va., where he will begin training for active service in the Marine Corps. Shanaman enlisted some months ago, but received his orders to report only recently. He is married and has been associated with his father in the lumber and coal business in Phoenixville. He was graduated from Phoenixville High School and the University of Pennsylvania where he attended the Wharton School of Finance and Commerce. He was a member of the Lambda Chi fraternity. His wife is the former Eleanor BOTHELL. Dr. Horace F. DARLINGTON, a first lieutenant in Camp Gordon, ten miles from Atlanta, Ga., writes that he is greatly interested in his new work. While he never expected to be a military man, he finds much that is appealing about the life, and he has plenty to do to keep him busy. The camp is located on a tract which formerly contained about 400 farms and upon some of the land there are growing crops, planted by former owners. This is the country in which scenes for “Tobacco Road” were cast. Lieutenant Walter A. CONNELL, son of J. P. Connell, West Grove, R. D., is now stationed at Camp Campbell, Kentucky, with the Fifth Service Command. He is serving as one of the camp sanitary inspectors. In this column yesterday, it was stated that Wilfred Dunne, of this borough, had enlisted in the Coast Guard, and was stationed at Great Lakes, Ill. It should have been his brother, Vernon DUNNE, of 202 North Church Street. Private Joe PERLMAN writes to his father, Jacob Perlman, 18 West Market street, explaining that his long delay in writing has been caused by considerable travel and advised that “there is practically nothing that I am allowed to tell you so don’t be disappointed in not finding any details. I am located somewhere in the South Pacific. Doesn’t give you much of an idea where I am but this is all I am allowed to say. I wish I had a chance to go home before I left the States but all my buddies were in the same predicament.” His mailing address is: Private Joe Perlman, 13044282, A.P.O. 913, 375th Air Base Sq., c/o Postmaster, San Francisco, Calif. James “Buddie” THOMPSON, son of Mark Thompson, of West Chester, is located at Charleston, S.C., where his father recently spent a few days with him. “Buddie” looks well and is enjoying the service. Wallace R. FLEMING and Vallie CATINA, of Co. C, 7th Training Battalion, 2nd Platoon, Camp Wheeler, Ga. Catina, left, was formerly employed in his father’s office, at the Superior Cannery, at Avondale. Fleming, right, was graduated from the Kennett Square High School and from the Beacom Business College. During his school life he took an active part in all sports, being the outstanding player on the soccer team. He has been employed at the Baldwin Locomotive works as an executive secretary for Campbell NEWHALL. (photo). Corporal Robert C. BEAM, son of William Beam, East Brandywine township, is now located at Winter Garden, Florida. He is a member of the 669th Signal A.W., Sighting and Testing Company, and his address is U. S. Army, Box 27, Winter Garden, Fla. The young soldier was advanced to the rank of Corporal about six weeks ago. Tullio D. FALINI, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dominic Falini, 128 East Gay Street, has enlisted in the Coast Guards, and left yesterday for Baltimore, Md. Tullio, who is 21 years of age, has been assisting his father in his business. In a letter to Francis A. SCHLEGEL, at the Y.M.C.A., Corporal E.W. LUSHER, of West Chester, who is stationed at New River, N.C., with the U.S.M.C. Parachute Training Detachment, Hudnot Pt., M.B., states that it is designed to be the largest training base in the world. Corporal Lusher has twice crossed the continent, since entering the service. Private Elmer Graham CHANDLER, of this borough, is with the Army Air Corps, 590th T.S. Squadron, at Keesler Field, Miss., Flight C. Additional Comments: Photo of Wallace R.
