HENDERSON, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Henderson, of 208 West Bernard street, who was inducted into service at New Cumberland and who was for some time stationed at Camp Lee, Va., is home on furlough from Camp Pickett, Va., where he is now located. Corporal Henderson left Saturday for Wilkes-Barre, where he was minister of music at the First Presbyterian Church before entering the service. He will return to his home on Wednesday, but will spend the following few days in New York City, after which he will again come to West Chester before leaving for Camp Pickett, where he is an educational instructor. The first letter in nine weeks has been received by the family of Corporal Norris G. JOHNSON, son of Mr. and Mrs. George A. Johnson, of Sugartown, who is stationed in India. He writes that he has recently been elevated to the rank of Corporal and has been in the hospital at the camp for some time. However, he is now able to attend to his regular duties. Corporal Johnson would greatly appreciate hearing from his friends. His address is: Serial 33100461, Hq. Sq. 10th Air Force, A.P.O. 885, c/o Postmaster, New York City. Lieut. Chandler H. RIGDON was home on a four-day leave, and returned to his post Sunday evening at Camp Forrest, Tenn. He was visiting his mother, Mrs. Elsie E. Rigdon, 208 South Walnut street, West Chester. He states that the major part of his company are from Philadelphia, Wayne, and vicinity, all of whom are fine soldiers. Lieut. Rigdon made the trip by the American Airway, finding the weather conditions most favorable. Aviation Cadet Havard F. STEWART, Jr., is spending a 12-day furlough with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Havard F. Stewart, of 24 West Miner street. Cadet Stewart is now at Ellington Field, Texas. He has just been transferred from Kelly Field Classification Center, Texas. Cadet Stewart is classified as a Bombardier and will received his commission in the U.S. Army as a Lieutenant when he has finished 21 weeks of advanced training. At this time he also receives his “Wings.” He says there is nothing like it and he “would not give it up for civilian life again.” Edwin Donald BREWSTER, 24, of 400 West Gay street, West Chester, has signed up with the Marine Corps, the third generation of his family to become a leatherneck. His father, Henry Edwin Brewster, was in the Marine Corps during World War I, while his grandfather (on his mother’s side), Thomas B. FRAME, served under the famous General Smedley Butler. Edwin, who played football and basketball in high school, feels that he has the physical qualifications to make the grade with the aviation branch of the Marine Corps. Until joining with the Marines, Brewster had been in business with his father in the Frames Motor Freight Company. He is now on Parris Island, S.C., for basic training which will last for approximately two months. Lieut. John F. GHEEN, a grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. John S. Gheen of West Chester, and a nephew of Mrs. Francis Scott BREUIL, Virginia avenue and Matlack street is “somewhere in the Pacific” with the United States Marines, according to word received by relatives. Private Samuel PARISE, who is stationed at Camp Pendleton, Va., is home on a ten-day furlough. He is visiting his mother, Mrs. Catherine BALDWIN, 701 East Virginia avenue.
