She was the wife of Alfred Harley Cumens, with whom she shared 56 years of marriage. Born in West Chester, she was the daughter of the late Marcus and Edith Robinson Jackson. She graduation from West Chester High School and was self-employed as a hairdresser at her home for many years. She started her career as an apprentice at Mae Zell's in West Chester. She was past president of the Philadelphia Hairdressers Association. She was accomplished with needlework, embroidery, painting and sketching in charcoal and enjoyed teaching classes in needlework. She was past president of the Needle Work Guild, a member of the Embroiderers Guild of America and was active in many needlework and embroidery organizations including Cape Atlantic, Philadelphia, Brandywine and Cover Bridge (Pottstown). She was a member of Church of the Holy Trinity, West Chester and was very active in the Altar Guild. For many years she and her husband enjoyed spending their summers in Cape May. In addition to her husband, she is survived by three daughters, Elaine Cumens of West Chester, Kathleen Cumens Caparo, wife of Harry C. Caparo, of Conshohocken, and Jeanne Cumens McBride of West Chester; a sister, Eleanor Jackson of Malvern; four grandchildren, Dan Caparo, Lisa Carlomango, Steven McBride Jr. and Alicia Marie McBride; and four great-grandchildren, Gaetano Carlomagno,, Taylor Caparo, Samantha Carlomango, and Nikolett Carlomango. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, December 24, at Church of the Holy Trinity, West Chester. Relative and friends may call from 9 a.m. At the Boyd Funeral Home, S. Church and W. Miner streets, West Chester. Interment will be in Green Mount Cemetery, West Chester. Memorial gifts may be made to the Church of the Holy Trinity, 212 S. High St., West Chester, PA 19382 or to one of the needlework groups.
