John Hickman, passed away on Wednesday in the 84th year of her age. For several years past she had made her home in Coatesville. Mr. Davis married Rees Davis, a prominent attorney in New York City. Following their marriage, they live on Washington Street, this place, for a number of years. Her father, the Hon. John Hickman, served several terms as Congressman from this district. Their home was on West Gay Street in the house known as the Dallett Hemphill house. At the time of Mr. Hickman’s election to Congress, they moved from their farm, “Bragg Hill Farm” in Pocopson. There were five daughters in the family: Lucy Morehead, Ada Sharp, Helen and Gertrude, in addition to Mrs. Davis. Their mother was before her marriage, Miss Eunice Phelps, of Troy, N.Y. She died on the day of Mr. Hickman’s election to Congress. The family attended the Church of the Holy Trinity. Mrs. Davis, her parents and her sisters were well-known and highly esteemed, and are remembered by persons of the older generation. It is said that her middle name was Jefferis in honor of Jefferson Davis, the President of the Confederacy, who stayed over night in West Chester at one time.
