All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/pafiles.htm ************************************************ Daily Local West Chester Pennsylvania June 11 1952 MISS ESTHER R ENTRIKEN Miss Esther R Entriken a pioneer in public health nursing in Pennsylvania died at noon on Monday in her 78th year. Miss Entriken late of West Chester had been ill for two years. She received nurses degree from Hahnemann Hospital Nurses Training School in 1898 one of the earliest classes at that school. Later she took post graduate work in public health and psychiatric nursing at Simmons College, Boston. During World War I she became a member of the Army Nurse Corps and was in charge of nurses at a field hospital in France. After her Army service she became connected with the National Red Cross Nursing Service as a field representative in Washington D C. Following this Miss Entriken helped organize and became supervisor of the public health nursing at Phillipsburg Pa. For about ten years Miss Entriken was executive director of the Pennsylvania State Nurses Association. She was born in Sugartown, the daughter of George and Sallie Bishop Entriken, on the old homestead of her grandfather, the late Joachim Bishop, inventor of a process for refining platinum. She made her home for several years at "Sledding Hill Farm" Landenberg. She is survived by two brothers, Roger Entriken of Grant's Pass, Oregon, and Dr J Norman Entriken, of Kennett Square: four sisters, Mrs. John Hollinger of Atlantic City; Mrs. Earl Dubbell, Huntington, Pa; Mrs. Vernon H Brown of New York City and Mrs. Walter P Townsend of Cheyney. Entriken – On June 9 1952 Esther R, daughter of the late George and Sallie B Entriken in her 78th year. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral at the Harold A Famous Funeral Home, 101 S Church St, West Chester, Pa on Thursday June 12 at 2 p m, DST. Interment Oaklands Cemetery.
