He would have completed this age in a few months. He was born in County Monaghan, Ireland, but came to this country, as did all his brothers and sisters, many years since. He procured employment in this vicinity, on a farm, and worked for many years with the late Marshall STRODE, Henry SHARPLESS and others, and was an industrious employee, who soon obtained the respect of his employers and associates. He later entered the employ of the old West Chester & Philadelphia Railroad Company, and became a fireman on the line. Of later years, he has held a position as tipstaff of the Chester County Courts, and only gave up his work when his health failed and he was compelled to take to his bed.The deceased was married twice and had several children. By the first wife, Thomas, who died recently in this place, and by the second wife, Mary, unmarried, still living; Ellie, married, deceased; Rose, married, still living; Kate, married, still living; Agnes, unmarried. He also had several brothers and sisters, all well known in this community as respected citizens as follows: Barney, a farmer; James, a merchant, of West Chester; Sylvester, a farmer, all deceased, and Mrs. Katherine FINEGAN, still living in West Chester, and a brother and sister who died young. There are numerous near relatives still living in this place and vicinity. The deceased was a member of St. Agnes’ Roman Catholic church, and a Democrat in politics. He was an upright, industrious man, who lived up to his full measure of his obligations with man and duty to his Maker.
