He died before admission to the Coatesville Hospital. Born in Coatesville, son of the late Lewis J. and Ella McLaughlin Gay, Mr. Gay had resided in Coatesville all his life. He retired from Lukens Steel Co. four years ago after 43 years of service. He was superintendent of the 140 and 206 rolling mills. Mr. Gay was a member of Lukens Veterans Guild and a life member of the Brandywine Fire Co. in Coatesville. In addition to his wife he is survived by five sons, John T. Jr. of Coatesville; William F. of Atglen RD 1; The Rev. Charles L. Gay of Schenectady, N.Y.; James E., who is in the U.S. Air Force stationed at Myrtle Beach, S.C., and George A. of Coatesville RD 4, and seven daughters, Dorothy, wife of Ray Kitterman, and Margaret, wife of William Barnes, both of Wagontown; Betty, wife of Donald Hyman of Tempe, Ariz; Norma, wife of Edward Davis of Coatesville RD 3; Gloria, wife William Lyons Sr. and Barbara, wife of George J. Chenger Jr., both of Coatesville RD 4, and Mildred J. Hess of Coatesville. Thirty-eight grand children, seven great grandchildren also survive, and three sisters, Mrs. G. Bruno of Lancaster, Mrs. Earl Cox of Medial Mrs. Preston Hatt of Pomeroy, and three brothers, Lewis J. Gay and Charles F. Gay, both of Pomeroy, and Dr. Francis H. Gay of Columbus, S.C. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the “Robert A. Harris Funeral Home, 1030 E. Lincoln hwy., Coatesville. Interment will be in the Glenwood Memorial Park, Broomall.
